August 04
It is that time of year for our family that not only includes school supply shopping, clothes shopping, but haircuts, regularly scheduled hygiene and bedtimes and lots of moaning and groaning about summer being “over”. I am the Mom that wishes it would never come, usually. But this year, I simply cannot wait for the big yellow bus to roll up and carry my cherubs away for eight hours of fun-filled learning. This summer has been a whirlwind of travel, pool visits, and general fun stuff, which has been great, however, I find myself repeating “I am not the cruise director” at least 40 times daily. You see, my kids have become dependent on me for their summer entertainment. I don’t know how this has happened, but long gone are the days of imagined armies to be conquered, animals to be chased and the happy-go-lucky-ness of a long summer day with my children. Now, they open their eyes and the drilling begins; “Mom, what are we doing today?” (outside), “Mom, are we going anywhere?” (yeah, crazy, wanna come?) and the old favorite, “What is there to eat?” (Gee, I don’t know….LOOK in the pantry!)! Only 2 more days to go…..
